"Seeing the newborn" - from the world of a neonatologist

who sees the newborn is a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He describes and demonstrates events, experiences and moral dilemmas that Mullen faced while dealing daily with premature births, birth defects, multiple pregnancies, questions of life and death, and critical moments where difficult decisions are required.

Prof. Michael Shimel - everything he can to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. During his medical training, he will fall in love with neonatal medicine, which was then a new profession. He will be enthusiastic about its innovation, its effect on the quality of life of newborns and their families. After being paid in one of the largest hospitals in the United States, he will return to Israel to Jerusalem to once again accompany the unit he was one of the founders of and would later head for over two decades. The unit has come a long way since its opening in 1978 in a small room inside the historic building of "Shaare Tzedek" on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem, to its spacious abode today in the "Hador New Generation" building of the hospital. From a small maternity hospital with only four hospitalization positions, it has become the largest maternity hospital in Israel.
