About the cooler project
The Lahav Association's cooler project is the first meeting point for parents of premature babies with the association.
The coolers are distributed to new parents of premature babies as a birth gift with a double meaning: the cooler helps with the complicated logistics of the transitions between home and the premature baby, and allows for the safe transport of breast milk to the tender premature babies, and most importantly, a warm hug that says: "We are here for you."
It is healthy for every baby to eat breast milk, but for a premature baby, who did not have time to receive antibodies during the short pregnancy, whose systems are not developed enough to digest food produced in a laboratory – it is truly a life-saving medicine!
With the help of coolers, mothers of premature babies are able to provide their children with breast milk throughout their hospitalization in the premature unit.
Each year, approximately 10,000 coolers are distributed to premature babies, funded by donations designated for this purpose. Sometimes the donations are given as sponsorships from commercial companies, and sometimes with the help of crowdfunding from people who identify with the cause and donate to continue the project.
